Recycled Sculpture Contest

Recycling Rocks! Submit your artistic sculptures in the 17th Annual Recycled Sculpture Contest. The purpose of the contest is to promote environmental awareness among students while
encouraging artistic and creative thinking.

Eligibility
The contest is open to all Montgomery County students in grades K-12. Schools must register to submit sculptures to County level.

Guidelines

  • Sculptures may be created by individuals or teams of two to four students (one entry per student).
  • Sculptures will be judged on:

    1. Number of Recyclable Categories used. (i.e., wood, paper, plastic, metals — Glass is NOT permitted.)

    2. Percent of sculpture made from recycled materials

    3. Originality (Sculpture can be realistic or abstract)

    4. Design and artistic impact (WOW factor)

    5. Complexity of sculpture

    Schools should organize their contest within the following boundaries:
    Division I = Individual or Division II = Team
    Category 1 = Grades K-2
    Category 2 = Grades 3-5
    Category 3 = Grades 6-8
    Category 4 = Grades 9-12
    (please note if student is entering under Special Education Division)
  • Each schools’ 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners, for each division, will be invited to participate in the County-wide contest.

2010 Timeline
April 12th: Registration Deadline.
April 26th : Choose 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place school winners, and notify County Coordinator of names through fax/mail/email.
May 12th (tentative): Deliver school winning sculptures to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.
May 15th: Awards Reception.

NOTE: Due to the size of the entry pool, we are unable to accommodate after-deadline requests. All rules regarding sculpture construction will be strictly enforced.

1. Register your school for the Recycle Sculpture Contest by April 12, 2010.

2. Sculptures cannot exceed 3 feet (wide), 3 feet (long), by 4 feet (tall). Entrees exceeding these limits will be disqualified. All materials to be counted in the judging must be visible on the sculpture.

3. Select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners from your school by April 26, 2010.

4. Notify Jennifer Mattingly of the total number of school participants, names of winners (including place finished in school contest) by fax, mail or email with proper forms. Forms will be sent upon registration.

5. Complete all areas of the entry card for each sculpture entered. Entry cards will be sent to you upon registration of your school winners.

6. Deliver entries and entry cards to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds at the designated time.

7. Attend the awards ceremony at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds on May 15, 2010. Time TBA.

8. Remove entries at the designated time on the day of the ceremony. MCSWD nor the Montgomery County Fairgrounds will be responsible for sculptures left past the designated time on the day of the ceremony.
