Glass
Clear, brown, green and blue glass food and beverage containers and jars
are accepted. Please remove caps and rinse out. Paper labels do not need
to be removed. Not presently accepted are window glass, mirrors, light
bulbs, drinking glasses or mugs, and oven/cooking glassware (Pyrex).
Please use caution to minimize breakage.
Plastic
Bottles #1 & #2
Soft drink, individual serving beverages, juice, most salad
dressing, ketchup, peanut butter containers, milk jugs, water,
shampoo, hair care & laundry bottles displaying the recycling
logo with the number 1 or 2. Please remove all caps or lids,
and rinse. Plastic containers may be crushed to conserve space.
Not presently accepted are wide-mouth containers such as yogurt,
margarine bowls and whipped topping containers; plastic flatware;
deli-style clear plastic containers, cassette and compact disc
cases; children's toys; oil jugs, plastic bags and plastic
buckets.
Beverage & Steel
food cans
Aluminum and bi-metal beverage cans, steel soup and food cans and
lids, and empty aerosol cans are accepted. Please rinse and drain
cans. Cans may be crushed to conserve space. Not presently accepted
are pots or pans, coat hangers, and scrap steel.
Mixed Paper
Office paper & junk mail, including envelopes with
small clear windows and staples. Any color and style of paper accepted,
including glossy. Please remove plastic wrappers, carbon paper,
paper clips and any paper that wrapped food. Confidentiality of
paper dropped off cannot be guaranteed.
Newspapers
Newspapers, including glossy ad inserts, magazines, catalogs
and telephone books (covers removed and tore into small
sections appreciated). Acceptable to place in container
with material in brown paper grocery sacks or loose. Remove
ties or plastic bags.
Paperboard Boxes
(Chipboard)
Food packaging containers, aluminum can beverage boxes,
tissue, cereal & some toys packaging. No plastic wrap or bubble seal
attached. Containers with food residue on them should be thrown away.
Paperboard does not have any "waves" or air spaces
in it. Flatten to save space.
Cardboard Boxes
Boxes and packages with a middle layer of wavy material in between
two brown kraft sheets. Most common are moving boxes,
shipping packages, etc. Cardboard egg cartons accepted also.
Not presently accepted are pizza boxes. Grease and food contamination
on cardboard renders it unacceptable. Remove all packaging
material (plastic bubbles, styrofoam, etc.). Can be flattened
to save space.
